History by George P.Tseke, Archaeologist.
The Fortress of Palamidi dominates the summit of the Palamidi Hill, which rises to an altitude of 220m. to the east of the town of Nafplion. Built in the closing years of the second Period of Venetian Rure (1711-1715), it fell to Ottomans, before irt was completed. Founded by the Venetian Poveditore of Napoli di Romania, Agostino Sagredo, and constructed by the military engineers Gliaxich and La Salle, it is a splendid example of fortification architecture, incorporating  all the experience acquired and achievents made in this field until the eighteen century.
Visitors to this fortress can admire the robust and well-preserved fortifications, the panoramic view over Nafplion and the other fortifications in the town, such as Bourtzi and the Acronauplia, the rugged beauty of the landscape at the point where the precipitous cliff plunges into the seat at Arvanitia, and make the mental journey into the recent history of Greece, as this site is linked with many of its principal personae.
